What should I do if my “check engine” light comes on?
When the check engine light comes on in your vehicle it doesn’t necessarily signal a need for major repairs. But something is up, and you should have your vehicle checked by a professional. We check the "code" stored by the ECU with a diagnostic scan tool, which is basically a computer used to talk to the car's computer. Anyone that works with computers knows they can be misleading and plain flat stupid at times. Therefore, the code can only point us in the direction of the problem. Many times the first step is to document the code, visually inspect the system indicated and clear the code from the ECU. If the code returns, which could take seconds, days, or weeks, we will start in on the diagnostic procedures.

Regular maintenance will also allow us to catch minor issues and deal with them before they cause major problems. Eschen Automotive Inc does not practice "cookie cutter" service. We know that each car is as individual as the owner. Looking at each car and its service records we can customize maintenance to your concerns and personal needs. The cheapest and a best routine maintenance is performed by YOU! Every so often turn off your radio and listen and feel your car. All cars make some noise. Knowing what your car normally feels and sounds like can identify problems quicker and easier. This saves money in two ways, less labor in the shop, less damage to other parts. Working together we can make a safer car and the repairs cheaper. Eschen Automotive Inc does try to look at each car individually, but there are service schedules that we reference to keep on track. We know that services could have been done off schedule. The more records that you can provide us will help us not miss anything as well as not over do. Check out the mileage schedules for more details on what you should have done and what you can expect next. Just like anything in life, proper upkeep is key.
